About Indiana Jones and the Great Circle:
Set in 1937, the narrative follows Indiana Jones returning to Marshall College after separating from his fiancée Marion Ravenwood, where a giant man named Locus violently breaks in, steals a cat mummy, and leaves Jones unconscious. Upon waking, Jones notices a medallion worn by Locus bearing a symbol resembling that of the Vatican Secret Archive, leading him to infiltrate Vatican City, which is under the control of Benito Mussolini and his Blackshirts, who are secretly cooperating with Nazi archeologist and occultist Emmerich Voss.
During the investigation, Jones meets reporter Ginetta Gina Lombardi, who is searching for answers regarding her sister Laura’s disappearance, and the two form an uneasy alliance. Their discoveries reveal that a tribe of giants known as the Nephilim Order has long served the Catholic Church in secrecy to protect the truth of the Great Circle, a formation of sacred sites spanning the world, and that the stolen cat mummy contains a stone connected to its power. Voss steals the remaining stones and escapes, prompting Jones and Gina to stow away on his zeppelin.
At a Nazi excavation in Gizeh, Jones learns the Order’s origins predate the Catholic Church and are tied to ancient Egyptian guardians. The search for the Idol of Ra ends with betrayal, as Voss abandons Jones in the desert before Gina rescues him.
Their journey continues through the Himalaya Mountains, where they uncover the third stone’s ability to transport a Nazi battleship across continents. After discovering Laura frozen to death, Jones is captured by Nazi colonel Viktor Gantz, but escapes when Gina detonates a grenade, sending the battleship crashing down the mountain. Using the third stone, Jones opens a portal to Shanghai during the Japanese invasion, where Gantz meets his end.
Hijacking a Japanese fighter plane, Jones and Gina travel to Sukhothai, Siam, where Locus warns them that the Great Circle’s secret must remain hidden. Jones ignores the warning, Voss launches another attack, Jones secures the stone, and Gina is ultimately captured during their escape.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, released in 2024, is an action adventure experience developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks, featuring an original story set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The narrative follows archaeologist Indiana Jones in 1937 as he seeks to stop various factions attempting to exploit the power of the Great Circle, a collection of enigmatic sites around the world that form a perfect circle on a map.
The game primarily uses a first person perspective, with third person applied for cutscenes and contextual interactions, allowing players to navigate a combination of linear, story focused areas and expansive exploratory locations including Vatican City, the Giza pyramid complex, and Sukhothai. Conceived by Todd Howard, who also served as executive producer, the story was considered a personal passion project, and MachineGames was selected for development due to their experience with modern Wolfenstein titles involving Nazis as central antagonists. Development spanned over five years, with an emphasis on crafting an adventure first experience, drawing particular inspiration from Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, while its gameplay structure took cues from Metro Exodus.
Troy Baker provides both the voice and motion capture for Indiana Jones, with Alessandra Mastronardi, Marios Gavrilis, and Tony Todd in supporting roles. The game was jointly announced by Bethesda and MachineGames in January 2021 in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and released for Windows and Xbox Series X/S in December 2024, with a PlayStation 5 version following in April 2025, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version scheduled for 2026.
It received generally positive reviews for its gameplay, level design, story, cast performances, and faithful representation of the source material, attracting over four million players and earning multiple year end nominations including Game of the Year at the D.I.C.E. Seeing that Jones values Gina more than the stones themselves, Locus chooses to assist him in following Voss’s trail, guiding him toward the final Great Circle site at the Ziggurat of Ur. There, Locus summons the Nephilim Order to launch an assault against the Nazis, creating the opportunity for Jones to rescue Gina. Despite repeated warnings from Locus, the pair continue deeper into the ruins and uncover Noah’s Ark.
They are captured by Voss, who reveals that the Great Circle is the source behind flood myths throughout history, explaining that God once granted Noah the Circle’s power to travel across the world, gather animals, and later repopulate the earth. Voss intends to exploit this power to secure global domination for the Nazis. When he activates the Circle, a catastrophic new Great Flood begins. Jones confronts Voss in a final struggle, which ends with Voss being killed by the Ark’s unstable power.
Locus then opens a portal and removes the Ark, stopping the flood. Afterwards, although mutual feelings are shared, Gina leaves Jones to pursue her career. In a hidden conclusion, Jones uncovers a mural revealing the Great Circle’s locations converging on the South Pole, where footprints in the snow imply that Locus survived.
Taking place during the Vatican City segment of the story, the Order of Giants downloadable content follows Indiana Jones as he encounters Father Orlando Ricci, a young scholar researching a legendary figure known as the Nameless Crusader. Ricci explains that the Crusader’s helmet and armor were hidden within a secret chamber beneath a palace constructed by Pope Paul IV, though Ricci himself has been forbidden from entering.
Jones agrees to investigate the palace and later meet Ricci at his family estate in Rome to share the results. Inside the chamber, Jones discovers the armor along with a key that unlocks an underground tomb belonging to a giant named Junia, which contains the first of three carved stone cylinder fragments. While traveling to Ricci’s estate, Jones notices Mussolini’s Blackshirts searching for Ricci as well. Together, Jones and Ricci determine that the remaining cylinder pieces are located in the hidden tombs of two other giants, Abgal, an undefeated gladiator called the Minotaur, and Gibborim, the Nameless Crusader himself. Jones retrieves the remaining fragments while confronting members of a modern Cult of Mithras hiding within Rome’s sewers.
The completed cylinder is revealed to be a key to the resting chamber of the still living Abgal. Ricci then steals the cylinder and exposes himself as the cult’s leader, revealing his plan to sacrifice Abgal in pursuit of enlightenment. Jones follows Ricci into the temple, defeats the cult, and opens the gate to Abgal’s chamber. Ricci ambushes Jones, but is killed when Abgal awakens and strangles him. Abgal lifts his chamber into the Colosseum and challenges Jones to battle. Jones emerges victorious and eventually returns to Vatican City.
