For more than four years of hard work and dedication, heartfelt thanks are given to everyone who has shown their support, as the efforts of a small indie studio were focused on bringing this meaningful experience to life. The project was designed to share true personal stories in a way that not only informs players but also sparks important discussions about issues that are often overlooked. At its core, the experience places you in the role of someone navigating a very difficult time in life, where challenges are deeply personal and immediate. You are harassed at school, making daily life feel hostile and uncertain, while the friends you once relied on begin to drift away and distance themselves from you, adding to your sense of isolation. At the same time, you carry the heavy responsibility of making sure your younger sister remains safe from the very real dangers present in your community, an obligation that weighs on your shoulders as the environment around you grows increasingly threatening. All of this unfolds during the final week before your high school graduation, a period that should feel celebratory but instead becomes filled with tension and uncertainty. Everything seems to be collapsing at once, forcing you to confront difficult choices and determine how you will respond in order to protect your relationships and keep your family close. The story is designed to test resilience, empathy, and the strength of human connection, asking if you can hold everything together long enough to find a path forward despite the overwhelming challenges surrounding you.
You are taken into the life of Aaron as he grows up on the south side of Chicago, where each moment is filled with challenges, lessons, and the determination to move forward despite hardships. Across the span of a single week, you will realize how every decision carries weight, shaping trust, loyalty, and the fragile balance between safety and danger in an environment where uncertainty is a constant presence. Day by day, new obstacles emerge, whether it is facing violence and learning to stand tall, or protecting the ones who matter most while still trying to hold on to your own sense of strength. This short but intense period also opens the door to deeper connections with family and friends, as shared experiences bring moments of comfort, guidance, and resilience, teaching you the true value of standing together when times are hardest. Through these bonds you come to understand who can be trusted, who stands by you, and how important it is to be that source of strength for others as well. Beyond the struggles and the need to endure, there is an ongoing process of reflection and discovery, showing how identity is built through resilience, and how growth can emerge even from the most difficult circumstances. The release took place on 9 February 2017 and it was both developed and published by Culture Shock Games LLC, created with the purpose of telling a story shaped by real voices and lived experiences. The narrative is built on in-depth first person interviews that have been carefully interwoven into the story, allowing the struggles and relationships of the characters to feel authentic, meaningful, and grounded in reality. A great deal of effort went into understanding the lives and challenges faced by those represented, ensuring that the portrayal was respectful and accurate while still delivering a powerful emotional impact. Beyond offering an engaging and thought-provoking experience, the project was also designed to inspire change and give back to the very communities that inspired it. To support the neighborhoods featured, half of the proceeds are directed toward two important non-profit organizations, the All Stars Project of Chicago and Reclaim Our Kids. Both groups are dedicated to curbing violence, creating safe spaces, and providing creative, positive opportunities for people living on the south and west sides of Chicago. This initiative not only makes the story meaningful within the game itself but also extends its reach into the real world, reinforcing the idea that art and storytelling can play an active role in supporting change and giving hope to those most affected by adversity.
